The New Holland L565 and LX565 are 1990s mid-size skid steers built on the same platform. Both run New Holland's 4-cylinder N844 diesel at about 42 hp and carry a 1,695 lb rated operating capacity on 10x16.5 tires. The LX565 is the updated version of the L565, and the two share most axle, cylinder, cooling and coupler parts. Simple, tough and easy to work on, many are still loading manure, moving dirt and clearing snow on farms today. Common Issues & Fixes:

• Wheel wobble or chaincase oil leaking at the axle: Worn axle bearings let the shaft move and wipe out the seal. Catch it early with the axle bearing and seal kit B93174. If the shaft or housing is already damaged, replace the axle shaft with studs 86546633, the axle housing 87026231, or the complete axle corner assembly 9805318.
• Broken wheel studs or loose wheels: Loose lug nuts snap studs and elongate rim holes. Replace the wheel studs 175617 and lug nuts 86979742 as a set, and replace a cracked or wallowed-out wheel rim.
• Loader arms or bucket drifting down: Worn cylinder piston seals. Rebuild with the boom lift cylinder seal kit 86518276, boom lift seal kit 86570922, lift or tilt seal kit 86570919 or bucket tilt seal kit 9610764. If the rod is scored or bent, replace the complete boom lift cylinder 87038977 or bucket tilt cylinder 87038978.
• Engine running hot: Blow out the radiator from the fan side and check coolant level. A leaking or internally plugged core should be replaced with the 5-row radiator 86534248. A weeping or noisy water pump SBA145017780 is the next suspect.
• Rattle or knock from the bell housing: A cracked engine flex plate can make this noise and leave the hydrostatic pump without drive. Replace with flex plate 86521866.
• Battery not charging: Clean the terminals and check the belt, then test the alternator. These machines used more than one alternator, so match yours to the SBA185046320 or 86520116 listing.
• Attachments loose on the plate: Rebuild with the coupler pin and bolt kit 87597878K, the complete quick coupler kit 86601599, or a new coupler plate 9841460.

• Check chaincase oil and wheel play every season. On a 25-plus-year-old machine, a bearing kit is far cheaper than a shaft, housing or corner assembly.
• Re-torque lug nuts after any wheel change. Loose nuts are the main cause of broken studs and ruined rims.
• Grab the filter kit once a year. One kit covers the engine, fuel, air and hydraulic filters on both models.
• Read the model decal before ordering. The L565 and LX565 share most parts, but your serial number is the final check.
