New Holland introduced the L234 in October 2016 to replace the L230, and at launch it was the company's most powerful skid steer. It has a 90 hp FPT Tier 4 Final diesel with SCR aftertreatment, a 3,400 lb rated operating capacity, and 9,323 lb of bucket breakout force. The Super Boom vertical-lift design has no rear towers, so the operator gets a clear view behind the machine. Redesigned boom stops prevent steel-on-steel wear and can be set to different carry heights, and when pushing piles the load is carried back onto the stops so the main frame takes the force. Relief pressure of 3,450 psi and 37.6 GPM of high flow make it a strong carrier for heavy attachments. Common Issues & Fixes:

• Engine derate or emissions warnings: The SCR system needs clean, fresh DEF. Keep the tank topped off, store DEF out of direct sun and freezing temperatures, and have warning codes read before running the machine hard.
• Oil leaking from the engine or crankcase pressure building up: A loaded-up crankcase breather pushes oil out at the seals and gaskets. Replace the crankcase breather filter 5801686484 on the service schedule.
• Intermittent no-start or dead dash at the key: A worn ignition switch is a common cause. Replace with ignition switch 87416177.
• Axle damage from heavy pushing: At 8,900 lbs with 3,400 lbs in the bucket, the L234 is hard on axles. A cracked housing or worn shaft can be replaced with the complete used axle and housing assembly 84596297.
• Dust and noise getting into the cab: Worn door seals let the pressurized cab lose pressure. Replace the door glass weatherstripping 84368761, replace cracked lower kick glass 84259722, or swap the door with the door assembly kit NH200DK.
• Attachments won't lock or the levers feel loose: Replace bent or worn left-hand or right-hand quick attach handles so the wedges seat fully.

• Set the boom stops for your work. Adjustable stops protect the frame when pushing piles and stop steel-on-steel wear.
• Lock out the lift cylinders before working under a raised boom. New Holland's procedure calls for a second person to engage the lockout.
• Use only fresh, clean DEF. Contaminated or old DEF is the most common cause of SCR derates.
• Have your PIN ready when you call. It is the fastest way to confirm fitment.
