The New Holland L223 is a mid-size vertical-lift skid steer from the 200 Series, which New Holland launched at ConExpo in March 2011. It pairs a 74 hp turbocharged FPT diesel with the patented Super Boom linkage for about 130 in of hinge pin height, a 53-degree dump angle and a self-leveling bucket. An optional Glide Ride system smooths travel over rough ground. Check Your Build Date Before Ordering Filters:

The L223 filters changed during production. Machines built 10/2013 through 11/2019 use our L223 filter service kit (2013–2019). Earlier machines from 10/2012 use our L223 filter service kit (10/2012 and after). Check the build date on your serial plate before you order.

Common Issues & Fixes:

• Hard starting or loss of power: Water or debris in the fuel is the usual cause. Replace the fuel filter element 84527831 and the in-line fuel filter 47462791, and drain the water separator regularly. A slow-cranking engine with a good battery points to the starter 2859528.
• Oil leaking from the engine or crankcase pressure building up: Replace the crankcase breather filter 5801686484 on the service schedule.
• Engine or hydraulics running hot: Clean the radiator and oil cooler from the fan side daily in dusty or chaff-heavy work. If temps stay high with clean fins, replace the radiator 84379154 or the oil cooler. The L223 used more than one cooler, so match your part number: 47778428 or 84499497.
• Loose bucket or worn loader pins: Worn pins cause slop at the bucket and coupler. Replace with the bucket pin kit 47396814K and coupler upper pin 9614349.
• Attachments won't lock or the plate is cracked: Replace bent left-hand or right-hand quick attach handles, or the coupler plate 47995646.
• Axle damage from hard use: A cracked housing or worn shaft can be replaced with the complete used axle and housing assembly 84596297.

Pro Tips:

• Match the filter kit to your build date. Machines from 10/2013 and later use different air, hydraulic and fuel filters than earlier ones.
• Grease the Super Boom pivots daily. The vertical-lift linkage has more pivot points than a radial arm, and dry pins wear the bores.
• Drain the fuel water separator often. Water in the fuel is the leading cause of hard starting and injector wear.
• Have your PIN ready when you call. It is the fastest way to confirm filter and cooler fitment.
