Case CX800 Hydraulic Excavator: Original 80-Ton Flagship

The Case CX800 is the original-generation 80-ton class hydraulic excavator that sat at the top of Case's heavy excavator line. Built with a Tier 3 diesel, load-sensing hydraulics, and a steel-track undercarriage, the CX800 was designed for production earthmoving, mining, and quarry work before being succeeded by the CX800B.

Where the CX800 fits in the Case excavator line

The CX800 is an 80-ton class original-generation excavator at the top of Case's heavy excavator lineup. It sits between the CX750D and the CX800B in the full-size excavator family - the flagship 80-ton machine designed for production earthmoving, utility, mining, and quarry applications.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The CX800 runs a Tier 3 diesel through a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain into a steel-track undercarriage. The main hydraulic pump - a load-sensing piston pump - drives boom, dipper, bucket, swing, and propel through electrohydraulic control valves. Cylinder service across boom, dipper, and bucket is common-pattern excavator work, but the pump and swing-motor specifications are 80-ton-class components - larger and more expensive than mid-class equivalents.

The undercarriage carries heavy-duty steel tracks, sealed-and-lubricated track chain, and large-diameter rollers and idlers sized for 80-ton class operation. The swing bearing and swing reduction gear are also sized for the class.

Common service items on the CX800

  • Engine internals: Tier 3 diesel - pistons, rings, sleeves, head gaskets, common-rail injection components.
  • Fuel system: Common-rail injectors, lift pump, primary and secondary filters with tight water-separator standards.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulic system: Main pump rebuild, electrohydraulic control valves, boom / dipper / bucket / swing cylinder seal kits, hoses.
  • Boom and dipper: Pin and bushing service at every joint, bucket pins, thumb attachment hardware, quick-coupler service.
  • Undercarriage: Steel track inspection and replacement, rollers, idlers, drive sprockets, recoil springs.
  • Swing system: Swing motor and reduction gear service, swing bearing inspection, swing brake.
  • Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, instrument cluster, sensors, harness, telematics module on equipped units.
  • Cab glass and wiper: KHN16820 24-inch wiper blade, KHN3046 front lower glass, and KHN2632 front upper glass cross-fit across Case and Link-Belt excavators.
  • Operator station: Seat, joystick controls, pedal linkage, instrument panel, cab HVAC.
80-ton class - parts are class-sized The CX800's main hydraulic pump, swing motor, swing bearing, and undercarriage components are sized for an 80-ton machine - meaning they're larger, heavier, and more expensive than mid-class excavator equivalents. Match parts to the machine serial and confirm by photograph or component tag before ordering high-dollar hydraulic or undercarriage items.

What to verify before ordering

  • Serial number. Confirm the serial on the CX800 before ordering year-specific parts.
  • Engine serial. Engine internal parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension - measure before ordering.
  • Main pump variant. 80-ton class load-sensing piston pumps had production revisions - confirm by tag.
  • Engine ECU calibration. Common-rail injectors and ECU sensors are calibrated to specific build years.
  • Bucket and quick coupler. Quick-coupler interface varies - confirm before ordering attachment-side hardware.
  • Undercarriage variant. Track shoe width and chain pitch can vary on 80-ton class machines - measure before ordering.

Why the CX800 still earns a paycheck

The Case CX800 is an 80-ton class production excavator - mass earthmoving, utility installation at scale, heavy commercial site work, mining, and quarry operation depending on configuration. Machines in this class are typically operated long enough to justify multiple major component rebuilds rather than replacement, which is why parts coverage matters.

Maintenance priorities on a CX800: clean fuel and tight water separation for common-rail injection, hydraulic oil condition and filtration, swing-bearing lubrication on schedule, steel-track tension and undercarriage wear monitoring, and pin and bushing service at every joint. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage across the Case excavator family from the mid-class CX excavators up through the 80-ton flagship.
