Case CX60D Mini Excavator: 2022+ 6.0-Ton D-Series Compact Excavator

The Case CX60D is a 6.0-ton D-Series mini excavator introduced in 2022 as the successor to the CX60C. It sits at the top of the Case mini class, just below the midi line that begins with the CX75C SR, and pairs a Tier 4 Final compact diesel with a hydrostatic dual-path rubber-track undercarriage.

Where the CX60D fits in the Case excavator line

The CX60D is a 6.0-ton class D-Series mini excavator and the 2022+ successor to the CX60C. It is the top of the Case mini class - the next size up, the CX75C SR, marks the start of the midi range. The CX60D is built for residential landscape, utility, irrigation, plumbing, and tight-quarters work where a larger excavator either won't fit or will mark up the site.

Locating your serial number On the Case CX60D the serial number plate is located on the right-hand side of the lower cab frame, below the windshield. Confirm the serial before ordering year-specific parts - Tier 4 Final aftertreatment hardware in particular saw running revisions during the production run.

What changed from the CX60C to the CX60D

  • Engine generation. The D-Series carries forward a Tier 4 Final compact diesel with refined common-rail injection, electronic engine control, and updated aftertreatment calibration.
  • Aftertreatment. DPF, DEF dosing, and SCR catalyst remain - with running revisions during production. Confirm exact part numbers against the serial.
  • Operator station. Refined seat, joystick layout, instrument cluster, and HVAC over the C-Series.
  • Hydraulic controls. Updated electrohydraulic or mechanical control options on the main valve and pilot circuit.
  • Telematics. Equipped configurations include a telematics module for fleet monitoring.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The CX60D runs a small Tier 4 Final compact diesel into a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain riding on a rubber-track undercarriage. Boom, dipper, bucket, swing, and propel functions are fed from a single-section main hydraulic pump under electrohydraulic or mechanical control depending on configuration.

The rubber-track undercarriage gives the machine the flotation needed for residential and finished-grade jobs where steel tracks would tear up turf or pavement. Final drives are sealed planetary units; the swing system uses a swing motor, reduction gear, and a sealed swing bearing.

Tier 4 Final aftertreatment - service implications The CX60D’s DPF, DEF/SCR, and EGR systems are reliable when fed clean fuel and quality DEF, but they require attention. DEF tank must stay topped up. The DPF will request periodic high-temperature regens. NOx sensors fail occasionally and can trigger derate conditions. Plan aftertreatment service into the maintenance budget on any production CX60D.

Common service items on the CX60D

  • Engine internals: Compact Tier 4 Final diesel - pistons, rings, sleeves, head gaskets, common-rail injection components.
  • Tier 4 Final aftertreatment: DPF service intervals and regen behavior, DEF tank and dosing module, SCR catalyst, EGR cooler service.
  • Fuel system: Common-rail injectors, lift pump, primary and secondary filters with tight water-separator standards.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler on turbo builds, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulic system: Boom, dipper, bucket, and swing cylinder seal kits, main pump rebuild, electrohydraulic control valves, hoses.
  • Boom and dipper: Pin and bushing service at every joint, bucket pins, thumb attachment hardware, quick-coupler service.
  • Undercarriage: Rubber track inspection and replacement, rollers, idlers, drive sprockets, recoil springs.
  • Swing system: Swing motor and reduction gear service, swing bearing inspection, swing brake.
  • Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, instrument cluster, sensors, harness, telematics module on equipped units.
  • Cab glass and wipers: KHN16820 24-inch wiper blade, KHN3046 front lower glass, and KHN2632 front upper glass cross-fit across Case and Link-Belt excavators.
  • Operator station: Seat, joystick controls, pedal linkage, instrument panel, cab HVAC.

What to verify before ordering

  • Machine serial number. Confirm the serial on the CX60D before ordering year-specific parts.
  • Engine serial. Engine internal parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension - measure before ordering.
  • Tier 4 emissions revision. DPF and DEF/SCR components saw revisions during production - confirm by serial.
  • Engine ECU calibration. Common-rail injectors and ECU sensors are calibrated to specific build years.
  • Bucket and quick coupler. Quick-coupler interface varies - confirm before ordering attachment-side hardware.

Why the CX60D still earns a paycheck

The Case CX60D is sized for compact-excavator duty cycles where a 6.0-ton machine is the right tool - residential landscape, utility, irrigation, plumbing, and any tight-quarters digging where larger excavators won’t fit. Modern Tier 4 Final emissions compliance, a compact footprint, and rubber-track flotation suit residential and contractor work where a wheeled or larger tracked machine would mark up turf or simply not fit.

Maintenance priorities on a CX60D: clean fuel and tight water separation for common-rail injection, DPF regen behavior tracking, hydraulic oil at temperature with clean filtration, rubber-track tension and wear monitoring, and pin and bushing service at every working joint. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage across the Case mini excavator family.
