Case CX350B Hydraulic Excavator: 35-Ton B-Series Production Excavator

The Case CX350B is a 35-ton class B-Series hydraulic excavator, sitting between the CX330 and CX350C in Case's full-size excavator lineup. It pairs a Tier 3 diesel with a load-sensing hydraulic system and a steel-track undercarriage built for production earthmoving.

Where the CX350B fits in the Case excavator line

The CX350B is a 35-ton class B-Series excavator, slotted between the CX330 and the larger CX350C in Case's full-size excavator lineup. The B-Series carried the platform forward from the original CX-series machines with refined hydraulics, an updated cab, and a Tier 3 diesel paired to a load-sensing main pump that smooths combined boom-swing-dipper-bucket motion under load.

Locating your serial number On the Case CX350B the serial number plate is on the right-hand side of the lower cab frame, below the windshield. Confirm the serial before ordering - production-window-specific parts vary across the B-Series run.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The CX350B runs a Tier 3 diesel through a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain into a steel-track undercarriage. The main hydraulic pump - typically a load-sensing piston pump - drives boom, dipper, bucket, swing, and propel functions through electrohydraulic control valves. The swing system uses a dedicated swing motor and reduction gear riding a large-diameter swing bearing.

The cab is a sealed-and-pressurized operator station with joystick controls, full instrumentation, and HVAC. Many B-Series machines were equipped with telematics modules for fleet customers.

Common service items on the CX350B

  • Engine internals: Pistons, rings, sleeves, head gaskets, bearings for the Tier 3 diesel.
  • Fuel system: Common-rail injectors, lift pump, primary and secondary filters with tight water-separator standards.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulic system: Boom, dipper, bucket and swing cylinder seal kits, main pump rebuild, electrohydraulic control valves, hoses.
  • Boom and dipper: Pin and bushing service at every joint, bucket pins, thumb attachment hardware, quick-coupler service.
  • Undercarriage: Steel track inspection and replacement, rollers, idlers, drive sprockets, recoil springs.
  • Swing system: Swing motor and reduction gear service, swing bearing inspection, swing brake.
  • Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, instrument cluster, sensors, harnesses, telematics module on equipped units.
  • Cab glass and wiper: KHN16820 24-inch wiper blade, KHN3046 front lower glass, and KHN2632 front upper glass cross-fit across Case and Link-Belt excavators.
  • Operator station: Seat, joystick controls, pedal linkage, instrument panel, cab HVAC.
Hydraulic oil discipline The load-sensing piston pump on a CX350B is sensitive to contamination. Stay on filter intervals, watch return-filter bypass indicators, and pull oil samples on schedule. A failed main pump is the single most expensive avoidable repair on this machine.

What to verify before ordering

  • Machine serial number. Confirm the serial on the CX350B before ordering year-specific parts.
  • Engine serial. Engine internal parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension - measure before ordering.
  • Engine ECU calibration. Common-rail injectors and ECU sensors are calibrated to specific build years.
  • Bucket and quick coupler. Quick-coupler interface varies - confirm before ordering attachment-side hardware.
  • Undercarriage configuration. Track shoe width and link count vary across configurations.

Why the CX350B still earns a paycheck

The Case CX350B is a 35-ton class production excavator built for general site work, utility installation, residential and commercial earthmoving, and mining and quarry work depending on configuration. The B-Series Case excavator platform earned a reputation for hydraulic responsiveness and operator comfort, and well-maintained CX350Bs remain in active production fleets today.

Maintenance priorities on a CX350B: clean fuel and tight water separation for common-rail injection, hydraulic oil condition and filter discipline, swing-bearing lubrication, steel-track tension and undercarriage wear monitoring, and pin / bushing service at every boom and dipper joint. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage across the Case excavator family.
