Case 1150H Crawler Dozer: Specs, Parts & Common Issues
The Case 1150H is the H-generation large-frame Case crawler dozer - Cummins 6BT-derived Case 6T-590 turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel and hydrostatic dual-path transmission. The 1150H introduced hydrostatic drivetrain to the large-frame 1150 line, mirroring the H-generation transition that brought hydrostatic dual-path to the 550H, 650H, 750H, and 850H simultaneously. Three primary variants: Standard, LT (Long-Track), LGP (Low Ground Pressure).
The Case 1150H Crawler Dozer is the H-generation large-frame Case crawler dozer - the first 1150 with hydrostatic dual-path transmission. The H-generation marked the most significant drivetrain change in the modern 1150 line: hydrostatic dual-path replaced the power shift used on the 1150G and all earlier 1150-family machines. Each track is now driven by its own variable-displacement hydraulic pump and motor - direction and speed controlled by joystick rather than gear shifting. The same hydrostatic shift happened simultaneously on the 550H, 650H, 750H, and 850H, defining the H-generation across all mid-class and large-class Case dozers.
The 1150H runs the Cummins 6BT-derived Case 6T-590 turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel - the same engine family used on the 1150G predecessor, now standardized in turbocharged configuration. The combination of the 6T-590 with hydrostatic drivetrain gives the 1150H smooth, infinitely-variable speed control and crisp direction changes well suited to large-acreage grading, road maintenance, and site work.

How the 1150H differs from the 1150G predecessor
- Hydrostatic dual-path transmission - replaces power shift on the 1150G. Each track has its own hydraulic motor and variable-displacement pump. Operator controls direction and speed via joystick.
- Higher engine output - refinements to the Cummins 6BT-T turbo six-cylinder bumped output relative to the 1150G base configuration.
- Refreshed cab and electronics - H-generation cab is more refined with improved HVAC, electronic gauge cluster, and better sightlines to the blade corners.
- Updated undercarriage - H-generation track frame and components, with broader variant offering (Standard, LT, LGP).
- Variant flexibility: Standard, LT, LGP - the H generation formalized track configuration options for site-specific applications, replacing the more limited Standard/LGP split on the 1150G.
Variants: Standard, LT, LGP
The 1150H shipped in three primary configurations:
- Standard - standard-width track, balanced general dozing.
- LT (Long Track) - extended-length track frame for additional ground contact area and stability.
- LGP (Low Ground Pressure) - wider grouser pads with extended track frame for soft-ground / wetlands / agricultural-soil work.
Variant affects undercarriage and frame parts - confirm Standard vs. LT vs. LGP by serial before ordering track pads, idlers, and frame components.
Cummins 6BT-T derived turbocharged engine
The 1150H engine is the turbocharged variant of the Cummins 6BT industrial family - same 5.9-liter inline six-cylinder architecture as the late-production 1150D, 1150E, and 1150G (Case 6-590 / 6T-590), refined for the H-generation. The Cummins 6BT family is one of the most widely produced industrial / commercial diesel engines in history.
The 6BT-T parts ecosystem is enormous - filters, injectors, water pumps, turbochargers, gaskets, and complete rebuild components are widely available through both Case dealer and aftermarket Cummins channels. Browse the Case Dozer Parts hub for current 1150H engine service kits.
Hydrostatic dual-path transmission
The hydrostatic dual-path transmission is the defining technical change on the H generation. Each track has its own dedicated hydraulic drive motor. Flow to each motor is controlled by a variable-displacement hydraulic pump. The operator controls direction, speed, and turning radius through joystick inputs.
Hydrostatic drivetrain advantages: infinitely-variable speed (no discrete gears), instantaneous direction changes without clutch, fine-control responsiveness for grading and detail work, and dynamic braking from the hydraulic system itself.
Hydrostatic service items: charge pumps, charge filters, hydraulic motor seals, drive pump bearings, control valve degradation, and contamination from internal wear. Hydraulic oil quality is critical - hydrostatic systems are intolerant of contamination. Hydrostatic diagnosis typically requires dealer service tools for pressure testing.
Common 1150H service issues
Hydrostatic transmission service
Charge pump wear, control valve degradation, hydraulic motor seal failure, contamination of hydraulic oil from internal wear are routine. Hydrostatic systems require clean oil - filter change intervals matter. Hydrostatic diagnosis usually requires dealer service tools for pressure testing.
Cummins 6BT-T turbocharger wear
The turbocharger is a routine wear item on 20-plus-year-old engines. Symptoms: blue smoke at startup or under load, oil consumption climbing, audible whine outside the normal range, or visible shaft play.
Blade cylinder seal failure
Blade cylinder seal weep is normal at production-run age. Seal kit rebuilds address most cases.
Cutting edge wear
Cutting edge replacement is the most frequent blade-related service item on a 1150H in active service. End bits wear faster than the center section due to corner load concentration during dozing.
Filter service
The hydrostatic drivetrain is intolerant of contamination. Stick to the recommended hydraulic filter and oil change intervals.
Cab electronics
The H-generation electronic instrumentation and joystick electronics can develop intermittent fault codes from connector corrosion at production-run age.
