Case 1825 Skid Steer Loader: Vintage 18-Series Hydrostatic Skid Steer

The Case 1825 is part of the vintage 18-series Case skid steer loader line - mechanical injection, hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain, and the rugged compact-loader architecture that defined the early Case skid steer reputation. Pre-electronic, mechanically serviceable, and still earning a paycheck on small jobsites and farms across the country.

Where the 1825 fits in the Case skid steer line

The 1825 sits in the vintage Case 18-series skid steer lineup - between the Case 1818 and the Case 1825B. Mechanical injection, gear hydraulics, and a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain define this generation. It predates the XT-series electronic skid steers and any aftertreatment requirements, which is exactly why owners keep them running: service is mechanical, immediate, and component-level.

Locating your serial number On the Case 1825 the serial number plate is located on the left-hand side of the machine frame, near the front handrail. Some units have a duplicate serial plate inside the cab on the operator’s console. Always verify the serial before ordering year-specific parts.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The 1825 runs through a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain - closed-loop hydrostatic pumps drive sprocket-shaft motors that turn the drive chains and wheels. Loader hydraulics use a gear pump with mechanical control valves and direct-acting lift and tilt cylinders. The machine is pre-electronic: no ECU, no aftertreatment, mechanically injected diesel or gasoline depending on configuration.

Because the architecture is mechanical end-to-end, the most common service work is hydraulic seal replacement, drive-chain maintenance, and conventional engine service. Cylinders use a threaded gland nut design - the right spanner wrench saves rounded glands and torn seals.

Common service items on the 1825

  • Engine internals: Pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings, gaskets. Pre-electronic mechanical-injection diesel or gasoline depending on configuration.
  • Fuel system: Mechanical injection pump, injectors, lift pump, primary and secondary filters.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulics: Loader lift and bucket tilt cylinder seal kits, gear pump rebuilds, control valves, hoses. The DMEL1075 cylinder spanner wrench is the right tool for servicing skid steer cylinders without rounding the gland nut.
  • Drivetrain: Hydrostatic dual-path pumps and motors, sprocket-shaft bearings (cross-fit D64175 sprocket shaft needle bearing), drive chains, final-drive sprockets, axle bearings.
  • Hardware: Skid steer axle studs and nuts (191048A2 stud and nut cross-fits broadly across Case skid steers).
  • Brakes / control: Park brake, control linkage. 48139268 control shock absorber cross-fits Case and NH skid steer control valves.
  • Electrical: Starter, alternator, wiring harness, gauges, switches, key switch.
  • Cab / operator station: Seat, ROPS canopy, gauges, controls.

What to verify before ordering

  • Serial number. Confirm the serial on the Case 1825 before ordering year-specific parts.
  • Engine serial. Internal engine parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Engine configuration. Diesel vs. gasoline configurations had different fuel-system and ignition components.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension - measure before ordering.
  • Cab vs. ROPS canopy. Operator station equipment varied between configurations.

Why the 1825 still earns a paycheck

The Case 1825 is the vintage Case skid steer that owners keep working because parts are still available and the architecture rewards a wrench-and-manual approach. No electronics to fail, no aftertreatment to maintain, no DEF tank to keep fresh - service is mechanical, immediate, and component-level.

Maintenance priorities on a 1825: clean hydraulic oil at temperature, drive-chain tension, axle bearing service, cylinder seal replacement when leaks develop, and engine service per the original Case schedule. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage across the Case skid steer family - call with your serial and we’ll match the right component.
