Reseal instead of replace when the bore and rod are still good.

Bushings & Cylinder Pins

Angle cylinder bushing kit for D4H XL and D4H LGP (CT-ACBK), cylinder bushings for D4B/C tilt and angle cylinders (4D0298), tilt cylinder tube-end and rod-end pins (8J0928, 6Y1421), and angle cylinder tube-end pins (8J0927). Replace worn pins and bushings to kill blade slop before it wears the cylinder bore.

Fitment Tip

The D4 badge spans four decades of very different machines, so the cylinder that fits depends heavily on your exact model and serial number. The D4B and D4C use B/C-series cylinders (136-3156, 143-7219) that share parts with the D3 and D5C. The D4G uses G-series groups and splits its angle cylinder by serial prefix (216-7388 early vs 259-0459 late). The D4H XL and LGP have their own angle cylinder seal kit and bushing kit (185-7020, CT-ACBK). The D4K and D4K2 use the newest cylinder set (364-9326, 364-9335, 364-9346, 476-2812). The serial number on D4 and smaller machines is on the left side of the engine compartment near the cab. Call us with it and we'll confirm the right cylinder before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won't my Cat D4 dozer blade hold its tilt angle?

When the blade slowly levels out on its own after you set a tilt angle, the tilt cylinder rod seal is usually bypassing internally. To confirm it: on flat ground, tilt the blade, then drive forward while lowering the blade with the lift cylinders. If the blade starts leveling out under down pressure, the tilt cylinder seals are bad. A tilt cylinder seal kit (132-7058 for B/C machines, 246-5917 for G machines) will fix it if the bore and rod are still smooth.

What's the difference between the 216-7388 and 259-0459 angle cylinders for the D4G?

Both are blade angle cylinders for the D4G, but they split by serial number. The 216-7388 fits early D4G machines before serial prefixes HYD1718, TLX858, FDC520, and CFN1071. The 259-0459 fits later D4G machines from HYD1719 and TLX859 up. Always check your serial prefix before ordering — this is one of the most common wrong-part returns on the D4G.

Do the D4K and D4K2 use the same hydraulic cylinders?

Yes, for the most part. The D4K and D4K2 share the same blade lift cylinder (364-9326 or 476-2812 depending on serial), angle cylinder (364-9335), and tilt cylinder (364-9346). These also fit the D3K, D3K2, D5K, and D5K2. Just confirm your serial prefix (RRR, MMM, KRR, or KMM) since the lift cylinder has a serial split.

Can I get a seal kit for my Cat D4H XL angle cylinder?

Yes. The angle cylinder seal kit 185-7020 fits the D4H XL, D4H LGP, D5M, D5M XL, and D5M LGP. If your cylinder bushings are also worn, order the D4H XL/LGP angle cylinder bushing kit (CT-ACBK) at the same time. Rebuilding is much cheaper than a complete cylinder if the rod and bore are in good shape.

Does the D4H angle cylinder come with bushings?

The complete D4H/D5M replacement angle cylinder assembly is typically supplied less bushings. If you're replacing the whole cylinder, order the bushing kit (CT-ACBK for D4H XL and LGP) separately so you have everything for the install. If you're just resealing, the 185-7020 seal kit covers the internal seals only.

Where is the serial number on a Cat D4 dozer?

On D4 and smaller Cat dozers, the serial number (VIN) is located on the left side of the engine compartment near the cab area. Pre-2001 machines use an 8-digit serial like 9TS12345; 2001 and newer machines use a 17-digit VIN. You need this number to order the correct angle, lift, or tilt cylinder because so many D4 cylinders split by serial prefix.
