Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Cat D3G dozer blade drifting down when I leave it raised?

Blade drift on the D3G is almost always caused by worn internal seals in the lift cylinders or a leaking control valve spool. If the blade drifts slowly with the valve in neutral, start with the lift cylinders — pull the cylinders and pressure-test them individually. If they hold pressure when plugged at the ports but drift when reconnected, the issue is the control valve, not the cylinders.

What's the difference between the 216-7388 and 259-0459 angle cylinders for the D3G and D4G?

Both are blade angle cylinders for the D3G and D4G, but they cover different serial number ranges. The 216-7388 fits early production D3G (before BYR1323 and JMH2051) and early D4G (before HYD1718, TLX858, FDC520, CFN1071). The 259-0459 fits later production D3G (BYR1324 and up, JMH2052 and up) and later D4G (HYD1719 and up, TLX859 and up). Mixing these up is a common ordering mistake — always check your serial number prefix first.

Can I rebuild my Cat D3C tilt cylinder instead of replacing the whole assembly?
