The 950 and 962 span multiple generations (B, E, F, G, H) and one model can use cylinders in several rod/bore sizes. The 950H, for example, runs lift cylinders with a 3-1/4" rod and 5-3/4" bore, tilt cylinders with a 3-1/4" rod and 6-1/4" bore, and a smaller 1-3/4" rod cylinder. Match the casting number stamped on your cylinder and measure the rod before ordering a seal kit. The serial number is on the left (highway) side of the machine behind the front tire. Call us with your serial and cylinder number and we'll confirm the right part.

What rod and bore size is my Cat 950H cylinder?

The 950H uses cylinders in several sizes. The lift cylinders (2424271, 2424272) run a 3-1/4" rod and 5-3/4" bore. Some tilt cylinders (2424270, 2457491, 3562217, 3585187) use a 3-1/4" rod and 6-1/4" bore, while the smaller 1630324 cylinder runs a 1-3/4" rod and 3-1/2" bore. Because one model uses multiple cylinder sizes, always match the casting number and measure the rod before ordering a seal kit.

Which lift cylinder fits my Cat 950B, 950E, or 950F?

The 950B, 950B/950E, 950F, 950F II, and 960F use left-hand lift cylinder group 1U1147 and right-hand group 1U1148 — they're a matched pair, one per side. Confirm your serial number and whether you need the left or right side before ordering.

Can I replace just the cylinder tube on my Cat 950 or 962?

Yes. Broken Tractor stocks 950/962 cylinder tubes separately — 3G8785 and 3G8792 for the 950B/E/F, and 1250028 for the 950G/962G/IT62G. If the bore is scored but the rod, gland, and piston are still good, replacing just the tube saves money over a complete cylinder group. Inspect the rod and gland first to confirm they're reusable.

Does the 950H steering cylinder fit other Cat machines?

Yes. The 6E5024 steering cylinder group is a wide-fitment part that spans the 814, 815, and 816 series, the 966F and 970F loaders, the R1600 mining loaders, and the 950H and 962H. Where is the serial number on a Cat 950 or 962 wheel loader?

On the 950 and 962, the serial number is on the left (highway) side of the machine behind the front tire. Pre-2001 machines use an 8-digit serial like 3CL12345; 2001-and-newer machines use a 17-digit VIN like CAT0962GR4PW00533. You need this number, plus the cylinder casting number, to order the correct cylinder or tube.
