What hydraulic and transmission fluid does a Case backhoe use?

Most Case backhoes call for Case Hy-Tran fluid meeting the MS1209 specification, which serves as combined hydraulic and transmission oil. Case Hy-Tran Ultra (MS1209) has been superseded, so use a current fluid that meets the MS1209 spec rather than a generic universal hydraulic oil. Keeping clean, correct fluid in the machine prevents most shuttle and valve problems.

Why does my Case power shuttle work in reverse but not forward, or fade when it warms up?

That pattern usually points to a worn forward clutch pack or low shuttle pressure. Forward gets used far more than reverse, so its clutches wear first, and thin, hot oil then can't hold pressure, which is why the machine pulls fine cold and fades warm. A shuttle rebuild kit with clutches, seals, and O-rings typically restores it.
