Case 721E Wheel Loader: 2005-2011 E-Generation Production Wheel Loader
The Case 721E is the 2005-2011 E-generation of Case's 721 production wheel loader - Tier 3 Case diesel, cooled EGR, power-shift drivetrain, refined cab and operator station.
Where the 721E fits in the Case wheel loader line
The 721E is the E-revision of Case's 721 platform - sitting between the 721C and the later 721G. Built from 2005 through 2011, the 721E brought the production wheel loader platform to EPA Tier 3 emissions with cooled-EGR aftertreatment, a refined Case diesel, and updates to the cab and operator station.
Mechanically the platform carries forward the articulated frame, power-shift transmission, planetary final drives, and piston-pump loader hydraulics that defined the 721 line. The E-generation refined the operator station with improved climate control, updated instrumentation, and electrohydraulic control valves on equipped configurations.

What changed from the 721D to the 721E
- Engine. EPA Tier 3 Case diesel with cooled exhaust gas recirculation. Pre-DPF and pre-DEF - no diesel particulate filter, no selective catalytic reduction, no DEF tank.
- Aftertreatment. Cooled EGR only. Simpler than the Tier 4 Interim and Tier 4 Final F- and G-generation machines that followed.
- Operator station. Updated cab with improved climate control, refined instrumentation, and electrohydraulic loader controls on equipped configurations.
- Hydraulics. Piston-pump loader circuit with electrohydraulic control valves on equipped units.
- Drivetrain. Power-shift transmission carried forward and refined.
Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain
The 721E runs a Tier 3 Case diesel through a power-shift transmission. Cooled-EGR aftertreatment means an EGR cooler, EGR valve, and the supporting plumbing - but no DPF, no SCR catalyst, and no DEF tank. Loader hydraulics use a piston pump feeding electrohydraulic control valves on equipped configurations.
The drivetrain carries the proven power-shift transmission, planetary final drives, and wet-disc service brakes. Many 721E units share brake, axle, and steering-cylinder components with the 521, 621, and 821 series - useful when sourcing parts.
Common service items on the 721E
- Engine internals: Case diesel pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings, gaskets. R49482 engine motor mount is a recurring service item.
- Tier 3 emissions: EGR cooler, EGR valve, cooled-EGR plumbing. Pre-DPF, pre-DEF.
- Fuel system: Injection pump, electronic-controlled injectors, lift pump, fuel filters, water separator.
- Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler, hoses, belts.
- Loader hydraulics: Cylinder seal kits, piston-pump rebuilds, electrohydraulic control valves, hoses.
- Articulation steering: Steering cylinder seal kits, articulation pivot pins and bushings. G109152 steering cylinder bushing fits 521F, 621, 721, and 821 series.
- Loader components: Bucket teeth, cutting edges, bushings, pivot pins, quick coupler.
- Drivetrain: Power-shift clutch packs, transmission internals, axle seals, planetary final drives. Transmission shift lever assembly is a recurring service item.
- Brakes: Wet-disc service brakes. 119433A1 lined brake disc and 119430A1 brake disc fit 621B/721B/821B with ZF axles. S300718 brake shoe, A12985 slave cylinder, and N8695 master cylinder are recurring items.
- Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, instrument cluster, sensors, wiring harness, telematics module. 87528688 AC blower speed resistor fits 521E through 1121F.
- Operator station: Seat, gauges, control levers, cab parts. 47880728 cab fresh-air filter on cab-equipped units.

Need a part for your Case 721E Wheel Loader?
Engine internals, hydraulic pump and cylinder components, brake parts, and articulation bushings are the highest-value items on a 721E. Call our parts team with your serial number.
Request a PartWhat to verify before ordering
- Generation matters. The 721-series saw multiple generations (B, C, D, E, F, G). Confirm by serial before ordering generation-specific parts.
- Serial number. The serial plate is on the left main frame near the articulation joint. Match it against the parts catalog before ordering.
- Engine serial. Case diesel internal parts must match the engine serial number.
- Axle variant. ZF and Case axles were used across the 621/721/821 family. Brake disc and final-drive part numbers vary.
- Cab vs. ROPS canopy. Operator station equipment varied across configurations.
- Hydraulic control variant. Electrohydraulic vs. pilot-control valves changed part numbers on the loader circuit.
Why the 721E still earns a paycheck
The 721E is the Tier 3 production wheel loader from 2005-2011. Cooled-EGR aftertreatment without DPF or DEF complexity makes it a favorite for owners who want modern controls and a refined cab but don't want to deal with Tier 4 aftertreatment service. Many 721E units are still in production fleets - site work, aggregate yards, snow removal, agricultural loading.
Maintenance priorities on a 721E: clean fuel, EGR cooler service, hydraulic seal replacement, brake service, and articulation pin and bushing inspection. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage for the E generation alongside the broader 721 family.
