Where the CX350C fits in the Case excavator line

The CX350C is a 35-ton class C-Series excavator, sitting between the CX350B and the CX350D in Case's full-size excavator lineup. The C-Series brought Tier 4 Interim emissions compliance to the 35-ton platform, with a common-rail diesel engine, refined electrohydraulic control, and an updated operator station while retaining the proven conventional tail swing layout and steel-track undercarriage of the prior B-Series.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The CX350C runs a Tier 4 Interim diesel through a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain into a steel-track undercarriage. A load-sensing main piston pump feeds boom, dipper, bucket, swing, and propel circuits through electrohydraulic control valves. The common-rail fuel system and aftertreatment package (DPF, with DEF/SCR on later builds depending on configuration) place strict requirements on fuel cleanliness and DEF quality.

The undercarriage uses Case-pattern steel tracks, sealed-and-lubricated track chains, planetary final drives, and conventional rollers, idlers, and sprockets. Swing is driven by a hydraulic swing motor and reduction gearbox riding on a large-diameter swing bearing.

Common service items on the CX350C

  • Engine internals: Tier 4 Interim diesel pistons, rings, sleeves, head gaskets, bearings. Common-rail injection components.
  • Aftertreatment: DPF service intervals and regeneration behavior; DEF tank and dosing module, SCR catalyst on equipped builds; EGR cooler service.
  • Fuel system: Common-rail injectors, lift pump, primary and secondary filters with tight water-separator standards.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulic system: Boom / dipper / bucket / swing cylinder seal kits, main pump rebuild, electrohydraulic control valves, hoses.
  • Boom and dipper: Pin and bushing service at every joint, bucket pins, thumb attachment hardware, quick coupler service.
  • Undercarriage: Steel track inspection and replacement, rollers, idlers, drive sprockets, recoil springs.
  • Swing system: Swing motor and reduction gear service, swing bearing inspection, swing brake.
  • Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, instrument cluster, sensors, harness, telematics module on equipped units.
  • Cab glass + wiper: Cab glass and wiper service items — KHN16820 24-inch wiper blade, KHN3046 front lower glass, and KHN2632 front upper glass cross-fit across Case and Link-Belt excavators.
  • Operator station: Seat, joystick controls, pedal linkage, instrument panel, cab HVAC.
Tier 4 Interim aftertreatment - service implications The CX350C’s DPF (and SCR on equipped builds) is reliable when fed clean fuel and quality DEF, but it requires attention. Keep DEF topped up, let regens complete, and replace NOx sensors when they fail rather than ignoring derate codes. Common-rail injectors do not tolerate water or contamination — water-separator service is non-negotiable.

What to verify before ordering

  • Serial number. Confirm the machine serial on the CX350C before ordering year-specific parts.
  • Engine serial. Engine internal parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension — measure before ordering.
  • Tier 4 emissions revision. DPF and DEF/SCR components saw revisions during production — confirm by serial.
  • Engine ECU calibration. Common-rail injectors and ECU sensors are calibrated to specific build years.
  • Bucket and quick coupler. Quick-coupler interface varies — confirm before ordering attachment-side hardware.

Why the CX350C still earns a paycheck

The Case CX350C is a 35-ton class production excavator suited to general site work, utility installation, residential and commercial earthmoving, and mining and quarry work depending on configuration. The C-Series platform is well-supported by the dealer network and aftermarket parts supply, and the conventional tail swing layout, steel-track undercarriage, and common-rail diesel are all well-understood by service techs.

Maintenance priorities on a CX350C: clean fuel and tight water separation for common-rail injection, DPF regen behavior tracking, hydraulic oil condition, swing-bearing lubrication, steel-track tension and undercarriage wear monitoring, and pin / bushing service. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage across the Case excavator family.
