John Deere 410J Backhoe Loader: Largest J-Series Tier 3 Heavy-Class

Manufactured from 2007 to 2011, the 410J was the largest and most powerful model in JD’s J-Series backhoe lineup. Built for heavy-duty excavation and high-capacity loading, the 410J features a Tier 3 turbocharged PowerTech engine, AutoShift transmission, and electrohydraulic joystick controls.

Where the 410J fits in the JD backhoe line

The 410J succeeded the 410G as the heavy-class industrial backhoe loader in JD’s lineup. Production ran from 2007 through 2011. The J refresh brought EPA Tier 3 emissions compliance with the turbocharged PowerTech platform, plus AutoShift transmission and electrohydraulic joystick controls - the largest and most-capable J-Series backhoe JD produced.

What changed from the 410G to the 410J

  • Engine. EPA Tier 3 JD PowerTech turbocharged diesel. Refined fuel system with electronic engine control and common-rail injection, cooled EGR.
  • AutoShift transmission. Electronically-controlled multi-speed transmission with automatic shifting under load. Improves productivity in transit and during loader cycles.
  • Electrohydraulic joystick controls. Available on equipped configurations - replaces mechanical-linkage backhoe controls with electronic pilot-operated joysticks.
  • Hydraulics. Continued refinement of the high-performance heavy-class hydraulic system.
  • Cab refinements. Updated displays, refined climate control, improved sightlines.
Tier 3 - no DPF, no DEF The 410J’s PowerTech Tier 3 diesel meets emissions with cooled EGR and common-rail injection - no DPF, no DEF tank, no SCR catalyst. Materially simpler service than the Tier 4 410K and 410L that followed. Often the preferred used pick for fleet managers wanting modern productivity without Tier 4 aftertreatment service.
