Case TR340 Compact Track Loader: Alpha-Series Radial-Lift CTL

The Case TR340 is part of Case’s alpha-series TR (radial-lift) compact track loader range — Tier 4 Final compact diesel, hydrostatic dual-path drive on a tracked undercarriage, and the alpha-series cab. Radial-lift geometry on a CTL chassis gives the flotation of tracks with the ground-level reach pattern of a radial-lift loader.

Where the TR340 fits in the Case skid steer / CTL line

The TR340 sits in Case’s alpha-series TR (radial-lift) compact track loader range between the Case TR320 and the Case TR340B. Tracked undercarriage, radial-lift loader geometry, Tier 4 Final aftertreatment. Where the SR/SV-series rides on wheels and the TV-series uses vertical-lift geometry on tracks, the TR-series pairs radial lift with a CTL undercarriage for jobs that need flotation and ground-level reach.

Locating your serial number On the Case TR340 the serial number plate is on the right-hand side of the lower track frame, near the rear adjacent to the final-drive housing. Verify the serial before ordering year-specific parts — aftertreatment configuration and undercarriage components saw running changes across the production window.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The TR340 runs a Tier 4 Final compact diesel through a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain into a tracked undercarriage — closed-loop hydrostatic pumps drive final-drive motors at each track. Loader hydraulics use a load-sensing piston pump with electrohydraulic control valves.

The CTL undercarriage gives the TR340 flotation on soft material that a wheeled skid steer can’t match. The trade is that track wear monitoring (track tension, sprocket and roller wear, idler condition) becomes the largest single recurring cost on the machine. Built right and tracked carefully, undercarriage components stretch out their service life — ignored, they punish the budget.

Common service items on the TR340

  • Engine internals: Tier 4 Final compact diesel pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings, gaskets. Common-rail high-pressure injection on Tier 4 builds.
  • Tier 4 aftertreatment: DPF service intervals, DEF tank and dosing module, SCR catalyst, EGR cooler service.
  • Fuel system: Common-rail injectors, lift pump, very tight water-separator filtration.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulics: Loader lift and bucket tilt cylinder seal kits (86570919 / 86570931 / 86570922 cross-fit on NH/Case alpha-series), piston-pump rebuilds, electrohydraulic control valves.
  • Drivetrain: Hydrostatic dual-path pumps and drive motors, charge pump, filters. CTL undercarriage adds track chains, sprockets, idlers, and rollers.
  • Bucket coupler hardware: 47396814K bucket pin kit cross-fits L216–L230, C232–C238, SR160–SR250, SV185–SV300, TV380, TR270–TR340 — high-volume coupler service kit.
  • Hardware: 191048A2 axle stud & nut cross-fits broadly across the Case skid steer line.
  • Brakes / control: Park brake, control linkage, 48139268 control shock absorber on Case/NH alpha-series control valves.
  • Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, machine controller, instrument cluster, sensors, wiring harness, telematics module.
  • Cab / operator station: Cab HVAC, seat, gauges, joystick controls, cab glass, 47405956 windshield wiper blade on cab-equipped units.
CTL undercarriage is the single largest recurring cost Tracks, sprockets, rollers, and idlers wear together. Run a track tension that’s too tight and you accelerate sprocket and idler wear; run too loose and the chain de-tracks under load. Build a track inspection into the daily walk-around and log roller and idler condition at each service interval.

What to verify before ordering

  • Aftertreatment + undercarriage generation. Tier 4 Final aftertreatment configuration varies by build year; CTL undercarriage components (tracks, sprockets, idlers, rollers) saw revisions — confirm by serial.
  • Serial number. Confirm the serial on the Case TR340 before ordering year-specific parts.
  • Engine serial. Internal engine parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension — measure before ordering.
  • Cab vs. ROPS canopy. Operator station equipment varied between configurations — HVAC, glass, and wiper components only apply to cab-equipped units.

Why the TR340 still earns a paycheck

The Case TR340 is an alpha-series CTL for operations that need the flotation and ground-pressure profile of tracks with the ground-level reach pattern of radial-lift geometry. Landscape, sensitive turf, soft material, and any operation where wheels would sink — the TR340 keeps working.

Maintenance priorities on a TR340: clean fuel and tight water separation, DPF regen behavior, hydrostatic charge pressure, and undercarriage wear monitoring (track tension, sprocket and roller wear, idler condition). CTL undercarriage life is the single largest recurring cost on this machine — service-life tracking matters. Broken Tractor stocks coupler hardware, seal kits, control components, and cab service items that cross-fit the broader Case/NH alpha-series, alongside model-specific aftertreatment and drivetrain parts for the TR340.
