Case 445 Skid Steer Loader: 2004–2010 Tier 3 400-Series Skid Steer

The Case 445 is part of Case’s 400-series skid steer / compact track loader family — Tier 3 compact diesel, hydrostatic dual-path drive, and the operator interface that bridged the XT-series and the modern alpha (SR/SV/TR/TV) lineup. Produced from 2004 into 2010, the 445 set the mid-frame Case skid steer template that customers still run today.

Where the 445 fits in the Case skid steer line

The 445 sits in the Case 400-series skid steer / CTL range between the Case 440 and the Case 465. Tier 3 compact diesel architecture, electronic engine controls, and the cab and instrumentation that defined Case’s mid-2000s skid steer / CTL line before the alpha rename to the SR/SV/TR/TV series.

The 445 was offered with a fully sealed and pressurized cab option, ROPS canopy configuration, and was available with mechanical or pilot-control hand and foot operation. It shared a substantial parts catalog with its New Holland-badged siblings under the CNH umbrella, which is why so many cross-reference numbers in the field point back to L-series and alpha-series New Holland skid steers.

Locating your serial number On the Case 445 the serial number plate is located on the left side of the machine, mounted on the frame near the loader arm pivot area or inside the operator’s cab near the left side. Confirm the serial before ordering — the 400-series saw multiple revisions and the Tier 3 configuration changes by build year.

Engine, hydraulics, and drivetrain

The 445 runs a Tier 3 compact diesel through a hydrostatic dual-path drivetrain. Loader hydraulics use a piston pump with electrohydraulic control valves on equipped configurations. A wet-disc park brake is integrated with the hydrostatic deceleration logic, and the auxiliary hydraulic circuit supports the standard universal skid-steer attachment interface.

Fuel delivery on the 445 is a tightly filtered common-rail-style system. Clean fuel and aggressive water separation are non-negotiable on this generation of CNH compact diesel — injector replacements are the most common high-dollar engine repair on neglected machines.

Common service items on the 445

  • Engine internals: Tier 3 compact diesel pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings, gaskets.
  • Fuel system: Common-rail injectors, lift pump, fuel filters, water-separator service.
  • Cooling system: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan, charge-air cooler, hoses, belts.
  • Hydraulics: Loader lift and bucket tilt cylinder seal kits (86570919 / 86570931 / 86570922 cross-fit on NH/Case alpha-series), piston-pump rebuilds, electrohydraulic control valves.
  • Drivetrain: Hydrostatic dual-path pumps and drive motors, charge pump, filters.
  • Hardware: 191048A2 axle stud & nut cross-fits broadly across the Case skid steer line.
  • Brakes / control: Park brake, control linkage, 48139268 control shock absorber on Case/NH alpha-series control valves.
  • Electrical / ECU: Engine ECU, machine controller, instrument cluster, sensors, wiring harness.
  • Cab / operator station: Cab HVAC, seat, gauges, joystick controls, cab glass, 47405956 windshield wiper blade on cab-equipped units.

What to verify before ordering

  • Serial number. Confirm the serial on the Case 445 before ordering year-specific parts — the 400-series saw multiple running changes.
  • Engine serial. Internal engine parts must match the engine serial number.
  • Hydraulic cylinder bore. Cylinder seal kit fit depends on bore dimension — measure before ordering.
  • Cab vs. ROPS canopy. Operator station equipment varied between configurations — glass, HVAC, and harness part numbers differ.
  • Control configuration. Mechanical hand/foot vs. pilot-control joystick machines use different valve and linkage components.

Why the 445 still earns a paycheck

The Case 445 is the mid-2000s Case skid steer loader that bridged the XT-series and the current alpha lineup. Tier 3 emissions, modern electronics, and the cab ergonomics that put the operator in a better seat than the XT predecessor. Parts coverage is strong because the CNH parts catalog is shared with the New Holland L-series and alpha-series skid steers — many components cross-fit between badges.

Maintenance priorities on a 445: clean fuel and tight water separation for common-rail injection, hydrostatic charge pressure, drive-chain tension, and cylinder seal condition. Broken Tractor maintains parts coverage across the 400-series and the broader Case skid steer / CTL family.
